Teachers & Associates: The Role of PROM/SE Associates

Requirements, Leadership, Training

Associate Requirements

  • Be a math and/or science teacher in a participating school district
  • Serve as a building-level resource and connection between MSU, the partner districts, the school, and the teachers
  • Lead peer-to-peer discussion groups and activities at the local level
  • Mentor and coach peers in PROM/SE-related practices and activities
  • Attend PROM/SE Associate Institutes and weekend professional development sessions

Associate Leadership

  • Discover how to lead mathematics and science education reform at the building level
  • Learn to use data and empirically-based tools that improve classroom instruction
  • Enhance content knowledge and learn how it relates to grade-specific standards
  • Build a peer network that enhances the practices of mathematics and science teachers

Special Professional Development training to

  • Understand and interpret building level assessment data
  • "Unpack" and apply state standards in the classroom
  • Develop district/building-specific action plans to address gaps
  • Act as facilitators and lead peer-groups in collaborating on these efforts
  • Assist peers in accessing and utilizing PROM/SE professional development
  • Strengthen content background and designing lessons that reach students
